Sunnyside Community Garden was founded over 25 years ago when local residents lobbied the council to let them use an area of wasteland to create a community garden.

With a lot of hard work and dedication, the site of Sunnyside was transformed into a landscaped garden with a meadow area, a small pond, neat paths, and a wooded area for all the community to enjoy. All these elements still exist today.

As well as creating a community garden, the local residents decided that they wanted the site to be especially accessible to people who suffer from mental health special needs and physical disabilities. In 1992, Sunnyside Community Garden became a registered charity (No 1092031) with the aims of providing horticultural therapy to people with special needs and to promote sustainability and good horticultural practices.

Today, Sunnyside is governed by a Management Committee made up of people who have an interest in the future of the Garden. Sunnyside is always looking for more people to join the Management Committee with a variety of skills. If you are interested in being on the Management Committee then please click here.

The day to day running of the Centre is carried out by four staff.
